Hi,
Thinking of ordering a Q2 but unsure of which gearbox to go for with the 1.5 engine manual or s-tronic, any recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks,

Gordz.

Hey Gordz,

Iv had an A3 with manual gearbox and Q2 now with S-tronic. No way would I EVER go back to a manual, It makes driving was more relaxing but engaging with the flappy paddles too. Only you can know though, test drive both versions and see.

Personally would not go with the 1.5 engine as there have numerous problem with it. google it and the whole VAG range has had problems with it. Apparently a software update has fixed it but I wouldn't trust it unless you can be 100% sure.

Good luck & if you have any other questions about trim etc then fire away.

PS: Get the tech pack with VC! you won't regret it!!

I've got a 1.5L Q2 with a S-tronic gearbox which is the gearbox that I would personally recommend.

Regarding the 1.5L engine I have been lucky as I don't have the kangarooing problems that some people have reported, it does seem a bit of a gamble though, as Ormesome says there are now software updates which some people are happy with but some say it doesn't help.

Hi ormesome,

Thanks for your input, never had an auto so a bit doubtful about them, but like you say will try out both. What engine have you got?

Hi mate. Iv got a 2.0tdi but i don't think my engine is available in the UK. its got 190bhp but i think the UK diesel Q2 is 120bhp ish.

It's not an auto box as such. more like a semi-auto, I would say. no clutch but the flappy paddles allow more control. I like it. very responsive and changes gear instantly. You will feel a difference if you are in Eco or normal mode. Dynamic really makes the car shift. The negatives will 100% be the time it takes to react from a standstill. its very very lazy, you need more input on the throttle than you would think. If you shift the gearbox to "S" mode then it changes totally. super responsive and pulls beautifully. Try out these 2 modes when you test drive. When you go to D on the gear shifter you are in DRIVE, pull down the gear lever and you will go to S. you have to make sure you try this out to make a proper judgement.

I would defiantly go with the S tronic as well, I always said I would never have an auto as I like to drive the car but these boxes are nothing like the old autos the gear chance is so smooth you barly notice it not like the old days.
Personaly I don't use the paddle shift very often but can see the attraction if your youngish šŸ˜€
