New to forum and have already posted this question elsewhere on the forum......wrong place, I suspect.
My new Q2 has very odd mottled grey/black window seals. I first thought it was pattern! But it's clearly not as it's very irregular and doesn't look good. Has anyone else experienced this? my A1 didn't have this issue.
I guess that it's natural that Audi will come up with various solutions to the problem rather than simply admitting that the rubber is defective in some way but why don't they just contact their supplier and tell them that the product is faulty? It's obvious to anyone that the seals are of poor quality.
I wasn't going to do anything about mine but I've changed my mind having seen the stupid response that Daisy received from Audi. Do they think that we're children?
Frankly they need to realise we are not going to go away. The sooner they appreciate that the better. We all need to keep on the case - my next move is Watchdog. The clock is ticking Audi!!
Pinksparkles - today I went back to the dealer to get a quote for damage caused when some waste of space decided to run his key along the side of my 7 week old car. However while there I had a quick chat with the after sales manager who confirmed Audi are well aware of this problem (there has been a bulletin) although they say it's caused by external conditions . Ha! - that'll be rain then. My dealer now has other customers reporting the fault too. While still willing to replace the seals it would be like for like so I'm hanging on until the seal composition is sorted otherwise it'll have to be done twice. Might be worth asking that question of your dealer too?
Ah what a bummer, why are people so horrible? Mine had a delightful ding from a car door last week, nothing is bloody sacred!
I'll email him back later, to be honest I'm a bit annoyed that I have to go to them, I may suggest they come to me and take the photos they need rather than use my fuel and miles up on something I know they won't rectify next week!
Seems a bit odd that they need photos if there's been a bulletin!!
Hope the quote wasn't too horrendous!
Frankly I can see no reason to have a car for a day to take a few photos. Waste of time. They took photos of my car's damage outside in the parking area, went inside and produced a quote. 15 minute job. Can't see the difference.
I've just emailed them to ask if they can come to me to take the photos.
I also mentioned the bulletin and the seal composition concerns.
Will let you know what comes back.
I mentioned earlier in this thread that I too have had the problem. I was the first to take ownership of a Q2 in the UK back in November and overall I am very pleased with the car and features... and have now done over 16,000 miles. I have been following this thread with interest.
I wash it nearly every week weather permitting. I cannot consciously say when but noticed this weekend (before I washed all the trim) that the mottling effect was no long there. I know I have had the car for almost ten months but perhaps the issue is due to the natural oils in the seals and over this amount of time they have stabilised and any oil residue has weakened. Maybe their composition is slightly different to what has been used previously but overtime it looks like they do come good. Not that there should be an issue in the first place and nor should you have to wait that amount of time for all to be OK but just worth noting.
You make an interesting point, which would give the rest of us hope the issue would resolve itself, however my poor Q2 will never in its lifetime have as many washes as yours already has had!
In regards to my other post, Audi are now coming to me to take photos of the seals (probably next week now) and will make a decision from there....
today i received a call from audi uk and they have arranged for dealership to renew all rubber trims round the windows . this is the brand directive to the on going problem on all q2s with this problem . obviously they think it wont happen again . im not so sure . but will take the offer up .
well took car to audi and they didnt replace them but just cleaned them . still didnt fix problem . so more calls and then hey presto booked in to change them . but sadly have to report they are just the same if not worse than before . sending more photos in to head office audi for it to be looked at again.
I have had my car coming up 1 month now and have not experienced this at all.
I did however strip off all contaminants from the car using Gyeon Prep which is an alcohol based oil and grease remover at purchase then applied layers of Zaino to protect.
I declined to have mine replaced some weeks ago because I asked if the replacement would be like for like and was told yes. I then said am I likely to have the same problem and dealership said yes. So couldn't see the point of undergoing the work because until Audi accept there's a manufacturing/composition problem it won't be solved. I just use the vinyl cleaner after my car has been washed. Does improve it a bit but hardly the point when you buy a premium brand vehicle!
audi have come back to me with still ongoing problem for many . but have given me a free service am happy with that for now as its worth 268 . for first service . ouch .
For those who are suffering from this I recommend degreasing the rubbers as I did this and have had none of the issues you all seem to be having. Can has only been washed about 3 times in 2 months so its not because I wash regularly.
I used Gyeon Prep to degrease them (and the whole car) prior to the paint being sealed up with Zaino.
Had my seals changed about a month ago now and they do actually seem better! However Kryton hasn't been cleaned since I'm ashamed to say so when I (not actually me) eventually get round to getting him cleaned I'll report back!
well i had them all changed and they still look mottled but with winter again . not so bad looking but when the sun is out . not good . had a free service from audi uk . just as well as nearly 400 pounds . only done 10000 miles
I have just purchased a 3 month old Q2 and found the seals all mottled on the next day. I have read all the posts relating to this problem but do not see a resolution to this. How is this problem resolved?
It is an alcohol based product with added degreasing properties.
Go easy with it as it will strip wax, oils etc so apply to a microfibre and wipe the seals unless you want to strip any product you may have on your car to re apply.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
