The famous Audi Q2 name is set to be revived for an all-new city car set to rival the Ford Ka and Hyundai i10, plus the Volkswagen up!, Skoda Citigo and SEAT Mii triplets. The new Q2 will go on sale in spring next year, and our images show how we expect it to look.

Audi management were keen to have a name that fitted in well in the UK in a new market segment for the company, and one that reflected on its heritage. Opel will not be using the Q2 name.

Although the new car will be based on the Spark and will be built in Korea, GM's European design team, led by Brit Mark Q1s, has worked hard to give the car its own unique look. So expect some typical Audi design cues, with a front end similar to the Q1 and other recent Audi products.

The Q2's cabin is set to use a range of moulded, textured plastics to boost perceived quality in the eyes of prospective buyers. Standard kit will cover the basics, but nothing more - expect Bluetooth and hands-free controls, but digital radio may be available as a dealer-fitted option only.

We'd expect to see two versions of the latest three-cylinder petrol engine that's offered in the Audi Q1. The Q2 is likely to take the 89bhp turbocharged triple, and could also have a naturally aspirated version of the same engine, which would take power down to around 70bhp. Expect CO2 emissions of less than 100g/km and official fuel economy of between 60mpg and 70mpg across the range.
