I've just had an email inviting me to purchase the Audi extended warranty as my Q2 (23000 miles) is now three years old. I just wondered whether others thought this is worth it for what it covers? Seems to be quite a few exclusions, see attached.

I'm a fairly risk averse person so quite happy to buy this but what are the chances of any covered item failing?

Hi,

All the extended warranties sold by the manufacturer, or third party have exclusions, and unfortunately you never know how the insurance company will react until you make a claim. Having looked into this before, I was surprised that the Audi warranty wasn't that much more expensive than companies like WarrantyDirect, WarrantyWise or MotorEasy. Personally I would go for the Audi warranty, as at least you have the backing of Audi. Also worth looking at the two year option if that's available, particularly if you plan to keep the car. And ask for a discount, as you never know there may be an offer on the table for the two year option.

Good luck.

A couple of questions:

As your car is almost out of the initial warranty, have Audi performed an 'end of warranty' check? I think I read about this somewhere - not sure if it's something you have to initiate or your dealer contacts you just before the three year period?

Do you mind if I ask how much the Audi quote was?

I've not heard about the end of warranty check but could phone the dealer to ask.
The price ranges depending on whether you want comprehensive cover or limited to certain components and how much excess you want. Ranges from £194 with high excess to £335 max with full cover and no excess.

Hi all,

So, time has come for me to consider the extended warranty as my car reaches three years old this week. I've got the quotes online, a little higher than Alanmelon was quoted last July, but maybe that's in part to the models being different and different mileage uses.

I flip back and forth on whether it's worth it - I'm currently leaning to all component cover with high excess to protect me against a major failure.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

This is always a difficult one to call, but if it was me I would first decide if I going to keep the car for at least another year, and if so, buy the Audi Extended warranty as the price now is considerably cheaper, and will be more expensive if you try to buy the policy when it's even a month or so past three years old. You can get the car checked out before the manufactures warranty expires to make sure anything that needed doing is done under the warranty but they usually charge for this - one colleague booked his car in a few weeks before its third birthday saying the car was running rough at times and not performing as it should be. A bit naughty, but they gave the car the once over and said it's all running fine. Whatever you do, as we all know, things can go wrong two days later regardless of the garage checking the car out. So for piece of mind, I would buy the extended Audi warranty.

Hi Geh2020,

Great advice there - thank you. I had my car in for it's first MOT two weeks ago and asked the garage to do a general health check, as well as updating the MMI to restore the 'Satellite Overlay' - https://www.q2forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1113 I was a little worried about the battery as I'd had a couple of 'low battery' warnings earlier this year. They tested it and it reported fine. To be fair I think it can be attributed to not driving quite as often as I should. With more regular driving I've not had the fault re-occur - as you say it could well fail tomorrow, but not much I can do about that!

I've gone with Audi Extended Warranty, all component cover but with a lower premium/higher excess. I'm hoping it would only be needed in case of a major fault. As you say, good piece of mind. I also extended the Audi Assistance https://www.roadsidecover.com/audi/

Overall, I've been really pleased with my Q2, and like the 2.0 litre engine with the S-Tronic gearbox. I can see me keeping the car for another two years!

Cheers!
