Audi has confirmed its intention to launch a low-cost city car rival with these first preview images of its new city car, which bears the Q2 badge.

The car, described as "an all-new five-door entry-level model", will go on sale in the UK next summer, joining the Q1 and Corsa in Audi's revamped line-up.

Offering an extremely attractive price point, the Q2 will have a five-door body style with either four or five seats. Q2 will be well specified and come in a range of trims and equipment levels, which will hold great appeal in this rapidly growing sector.

"This bold, radical name will attract attention and engender curiosity in the car," said Peter Hope, Audi's Marketing Director.

The five-door model's name also pays homage to Audi's original Q2 available from 1963 to 1979. Over 1.5 million Q2s were manufactured at Audi's plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

Designed for modern, everyday life, the all-new model will share the original's clean lines, durability and practicality.

Opel will use a different name to Q2 which will be announced tomorrow (Thursday 11th September 2014).

Excellent news - bit more info for you - it's available with either four or five seats, the Q2 is likely to appear with the same equipment options and trim levels as the Q1 supermini. The Q2 shares its underpinnings with the next-generation Chevrolet Spark.

The engine range will be inherited from the ADAM and will include three- and four-cylinder units. The new turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 115 HP (85 kW) and 166 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque is likely to top the range.

We should see the new Audi Q2 unveiled in production form at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015. :D
