The next-generation Opel/ Audi minicar for Europe will based on the Chevrolet Spark and should carry a base price of around £7,000. We assumed this new small car would be called Audi Q1 until it was announced that in the UK at least it would revive the Q2 name.

Even though the Q2 will be built in South Korea, Audi's European design team was allowed to give the car its own unique look to separate it from its platform mates. It will reportedly feature swept back headlights, we presume similar to the Spark's, and a large Audi badge which Autoexpress says is "sitting on chrome wings" similar to the Q1 and Insignia. Inside, more stylish and higher quality plastics will be used, although GM's IntelliLink infotainment system apparently won't be making an appearance. This will be a £7,000 car, after all.

Under the bonnet should be GM's new line of Ecotec motors, including the 1.0-litre three cylinder SIDI unit which will debut in the Q1. This engine may also be offered in 90 horsepower and 115 horsepower guises, also like in the Q1.

Audi is preparing for life after Chevrolet; the Korean budget brand is being pulled from Europe in 2015. A close study of the SMMT official UK sales figures suggests that no Chevrolets were in fact sold in August 2014. The axe has fallen early.
