hi All,

I recently purchased a used 2.0 TDI, late 2017 model. It came with the Tech pack and the digital cluster entertains me to no end :)

I know that these don't come with a spare wheel as standard, ..but... Mine came with the higher load floor, and room for the spare wheel (with that black styrofoam insert that holds the jack, security wheel nut, and tyre lever etc.). I didn't see this in the other models I looked at - it was just and empty load bin underneath,... that makes me wonder whether this specific model might not have been equipped with that optional extra from the get go.

Is there a way that I can check whether this car was supposed to have a spare wheel? Maybe a dealer can look it up on the vehicle database? Any other way to tell...

Naturally I would like to be sure before contact the selling Dealer and ask him for my spare wheel

best
Stephan

I got a Q2 Sport from new, and like yours it had no spare wheel, but on mine the tools were in a compact round styrofoam insert designed to fit inside the rim of a spare wheel. It was held in place with a central floor-mounted bolt and wheel-nut which would also secure a spare wheel. I bought a wheel for £80 on ebay and everything fits fine. What's more, with the tool-holder sitting inside the wheel it all fits under the floor even with the floor in the lower position, maximising load space!

I suspect the tool-holder arrangement in your car might have been designed for the wheel space to be occupied by a Bose sound system. In any case, to get the most space-efficient arrangement you will need to fit a central floor-mounted bolt and wheel-nut to hold the wheel, and find the right kind of tool-holder, as well as buying the wheel.

The spare wheel spec for all versions of the Q2 is the same as for an A4 (2008-16) or A5 (2008-17). The tyre spec is T125/70 R19 100M. These space-saver wheels are quite easy to find on ebay etc. You can get a 'used' one, which probably means it's been carried in a car for a few years but this is fine if it's never been fitted and run on the road.

there seem to be these, which are 19" and there are also 18" and 17" ones..

I know there is only a small set of space saver spare wheels, hence the rolling circumference is hardly ever the same as your original tyre..., and as this is meant for short emergency trips it should not matter too much...

just looking at the original tyre: real tyre : 215/50 R18, it has a 2110mm circumference (if my maths was correct) and the circumference of the space saver spares are:
125/70 R19 : 2065mm circumference , thus 45mm less than stock (-2.1%)
145/80 R18 : 2164mm circumference, thus 55mm more than stock (+2.6%)

My feeling is to go with the 125/70 R19 as it has the least difference, but it will also have an ever so slightly smaller diameter and will fit in the trunk space better...

The actual wheel spec is different, the A4/5 (B8 chassis) is 4x19 et 29 the Q2 is 3.5x19 et15.

The A4/5 has a centre bore of 66.6 and the Q2 has a 57.9.

Tyre spec is however the same.

Part number for the Q2 space saver wheel is 8S0 601 027 A and the tyre is 8W0 601 308 RHK

Only parts listed on ETKA is a 19" space saver, no 18" or 17"

You're right Ian, and my earlier post was incorrect. I hadn't appreciated that the Q2 wheels had a smaller central bore - to be strictly accurate it is 57.1mm.

I've now re-sold the ex-A4 spare that I bought before, and bought one with the correct spec for the Q2 (£145 from thewheelshop.co.uk, brand new Audi wheel with Continental tyre).

Is there any consequence in using a wheel with a larger bore. Presumably it'll still go on?
The wheel sits on the flange of the hub and that is what carries the weight, the wheel bolts merely secure the wheel to the hub. If the wheel bore is bigger than the hub bore then the wheel will not site central and will not carry the weight correctly. Should the bore be bigger on the wheel you will need to run spigot rings to centralise the wheel and avoid any wobbles or vibrations that are caused from running the wrong wheel bore as well as carrying the weight on the hub not the wheel bolts.

This is so confusing. So does the space saver wheel and/or tyre differ depending on original wheel size? Or is there just one space saver size for all wheel configurations? An eBay search lists an 18 and 19 inch variation.

Yes the wheel will go on, but keeping the wheel 'centred' would rely on the bolts alone. The weight of the car could put too much lateral stress on the bolts, especially if the wheel hits a pot-hole for example. The bolts might shear off and the wheel would fall off.

The Audi 'original equipment' space-saver spare is definitely 19". An 18" wheel would work fine as a spare, provided the tyre has a similar rolling circumference to the main wheels. But pay attention to the tyre width if you want to be able to stow the spare under the load floor in the lower position. The OE 125/70r19 tyre fits fine, but the 18" variant I've seen has a 145mm tyre which probably won't fit under that floor.

Also, the OE circular moulded tool holder is designed to fit inside a 19" rim.

Thanks for the reply, Graham.
My Q2 runs the 18" alloys, and I would want a compatible spare with the narrow tyre for lower floor position and room for the round tool holder. Did the spare you recently purchased meet these criteria? If so, I'd be grateful if you could share the product code. Thanks.

Yes my spare meets these criteria (although with the tool holder in place it's a tight fit under the load floor).

Another contributor has posted the Audi part number for the steel wheel: 8S0 601 027 A. The spec is 3.5x19 ET15 with 57.1mm centre bore.
Similarly, the part number for the tyre is stated as 8W0 601 308 RHK, and the spec is 125/70 R19 100M.

I got mine from https://www.thewheelshop.co.uk/audi-q2-19-space-saver-spare-wheel.html at half the price quoted by my Audi dealer.

My S-Line Q2 came with no space saver wheel, but it did have the foam insert/jack and tyre repair foam with pump.

I have 18" tyres and therefore bought the 18" Q2 spare wheel from wheelshop.co.uk -£125 (after choosing to disregard the repeated advice to go with 19" on this forum!)

So the 18" space saver arrived (with a non-branded tyre - 'longlife' or something like that) It fitted into the boot space, but the foam insert provided by Audi, would not fit into the centre of the new wheel ; meaning the tyre could not be bolted in, and only the upper level for the floor boot would be available.

I ordered the 19" Q2 tyre £145, it fits perfectly AND has a Continental tyre on it.
I now have a spare tyre and the boot floor can be at it's lowest position.

Glad you got the right one in the end!

The key take-out is that the rim size of the main wheels is irrelevant. All the wheel-size options for the Q2 have approximately the same rolling circumference (i.e. measured once around the tyre tread surface). Both the 18" and 19" spare wheel variants also have about the same rolling circumference, so either would be fine when fitted to a hub, but only the 19" spare fits with the tool holder under the load floor in lower position.

I have a 2018 Q2 S Line with 18" wheels.
I wanted to purchase a spacesaver spare from my local Audi dealer and was quoted over £360.00 for the privilege.
I was then advised I could not get a spacesaver wheel for my vehicle as it was not listed.
Am I being fobbed off here or has anyone any ideas where should go with this.
Thank you.
