1st Audi

Post by OSL282 » Fri May 12, 2017 9:25 am

Picked up a new Q2 1.4 TFSI Sport S Tronic in Tango Red yesterday. It's our 1st Audi in many years of motoring. I initially looked at a 2.0 TDi Q3, Qashqai, ASX, Sportage, CX3 etc. but wanted something a bit 'different'...

The Q2 is a smaller car than we have had for a while but lifestyle and health changes prompted the choice and we are now down to owning 2 cars rather than 4......

still getting to know the controls and finding some of the menu options rather frustrating and not exactly user friendly but will get there....

Very nice. And in the best colour :)

Enjoy your new car. And you are not the only one who finds some of the menu options confusing.

When I 1st looked at the car the 'salesman' said the car had cruise control. When asked if it also had a speed limiter he said no.

Well guess what, it does have a speed limiter function on the cruise control lever which is similar to that on a Mercedes. I much prefer a limiter to cruise, though haven't driven a car with 'adaptive' cruise.

The 1.4 TFSI engine linked to S Tronic is one great bit of kit and the car is surprisingly fast and very quiet.

Quiet to the point that it's hard to say which is quieter, the petrol Q2 or the all electric Nissan Leaf which we traded in.....

Hi,

Does the speed limiter work?

I have the button but it does not function. In the manual I have a single sheet addendum that states the Speed Limiter function is not functional. I am assuming it is just a software issue and hoping it will be fixed sometime in the future.

Yes, my limiter works fine. The manual does say that it isn't available on all models which I find a bit strange. Has your car got 'active' cruise or standard cruise?

Hi,

Mine has active cruise control. I do have the button for the speed limiter, it just is not enabled. I was the first to take delivery of a Q2 early November and thinking there were issues. It is odd to have the button and a sheet in the manual stating that it is not functional. I'll drop my dealer a note to see if they are aware of an issue that hopefully has been resolved.

Well this winter has been interesting and after 10 months the Q2 has gone....

Whilst fuel economy was OK at an average 40 mpg I did find the ride rather 'skittish' (but being used to big hydraulic suspension Citroens that was always going to be an issue)

The negatives though were not good and could be divided into 2 categories, Bad and downright UGLY remembering that I post this as I have 50+ years driving experience in over a 100 different cars.

Bad

Overpriced 'premium brand' and parts with poor customer service.

Poor quality interior trim easily marked, especially those 'anodised' door pulls so if you have bought on PCP, expect a large 'damages' bill at trade in time....

High depreciation = 29% in year 1

Audi Presense which applied the brakes for no real reason and locked the wheels up when least expected.

Lack of front wheel grip (yes it was a front wheel drive only variant but..) when it was cold and damp. Spinning the front wheels on pulling away even in 'efficiency' mode wearing front tyres..

UGLY

Total loss of grip with even a hint of ice/snow on the road.

Once when going less than 10 mph coming to a junction the car when braked just went forward and slid into a live traffic lane. Luckily the nearest car was 100 metres away so stopped in time for running straight into us.

Another time on a very shallow slope in our Doctors Car Park the car had ZERO traction and required the assistance of a couple of passers by to push us to get us moving.

The car really was dangerous in winter conditions to the point that it was left parked on the drive for days on end.

Maybe a 'Quattro' version will be better, but not for me.

By all.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your Q2....what did you replace it with?

I do agree that Audi's pricing is getting a joke, especially as their quality is decreasing!
