Suspension failure!

Post by Brendanh5691 » Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:35 am

Hi guys,

Just fishing about as before Christmas we experience some sort of failure with the control arms on our sq2 which caused the car to crash.

Just wondering if anyone has has any similar issues as Audi has ‘investigated’ and basically fobbed us off with a 2 line email, saying the car has had a severe impact and there’s no notable mechanical failure.

Also maybe advise everyone to get there’s checked.

27,000 sq2 no mods, see photos

Not seen anything like that happen other than as a result of a heavy impact. Was the mark on the front arch trim and lower front valance as a result of the failure or prior to the failure? No marks on the wheel before the failure where someone may have hit the car in a car part etc?

Which part do you think broke first? The wheel bearing housing or the ball joint?

If I had to guess I would say the ball joint failed which then caused the wheel bearing housing to break at its weakest point as a result of no lower fixing.

I have had a few lowered Audi's which the ball joint would be under significantly more stress than your stock SQ2 and have not had any issues.

The car was mint no issues, basically the steering went loose then the car was all over the place and when it was sideways and had opposite lock on the wheel just completely buckled as if it wasn’t attached to anything structural, the car then slid like it was on ice into the central res, but because the wheel was placed like that in the arch it protected the bodywork. As you can see there is no significant impact damage to support the damage being crashed as to get the car to that point, there would be more damage to the body work
