SOS button in 2019 models?

Post by q2us3r » Thu Apr 25, 2019 3:21 pm

I had a look at some 2019 models in the Audi dealership and they all seem to be missing the SOS button (or eCall button). I thought it was an EU directive that all cars after March 2018 would be required to have it installed? or was the UK exempted? and apart from the Q2 are there any other recent Audi models that do not come with the SOS button? just thought it was strange (as it also means that the MyAudi app becomes useless)

Yeah no Q2 or SQ2 come with this. it will come with the facelift model. not sure when that is due though but I would have thought pretty soon as its normally an 8yr production run with 4yrs being the time of a facelift. Expect an SOS button and the updated Virtual Cockpit too. The Q2 is based on Audi's old design so would expect it to be updated to be more like the Q3, A1 and new A3.

Audi App is only good to send destinations. nothing else, unfortunately.

Wouldn't that put a refresh late 2020? I looked at this before getting a Q2, and could find no mention of a refresh this year (so I decided I wouldn't wait)

Yes possible around then. Depends though as they seem to be releasing quite a few variations of the Q2 recently such as the long wheel base version for China, the electric version is rumoured and also the SQ2 was quite late to the show so perhaps the facelift might not even be around the normal 4yr mark.

I also looked to, extensively, and couldn’t find anything about a facelift version. To be honest the Q2 only now seems to be taking off.

Ah, so maybe when the EU said that all new cars from March 2018 needed to have an SOS button maybe they meant new models/facelifts as opposed to all new cars from existing models/facelifts - that could make sense.
