Service reminder

Post by mr c » Tue Sep 10, 2019 10:16 am

Hi guys we have owned our car for just over a year now only got 7000 miles on her which is probably half short journeys and half long runs, so was wondering if the service light comes on timescale which is 24months or does it monitor oil degradation. I checked the oil the other day it has used some but usually we have the cars serviced annually so don’t bother topping it up.
I don’t know weather to have it serviced now or top it up and wait for the two year period.

I am not a fan of the long service intervals but as this is the first new Audi we have owned and we all know what the stealers service charges are not to sure which way to go? don’t want to throw money away but if it should have it then so be it.

I had to ask myself the same question last March, when my car had similar mileage to yours.
The words ‘service 01, appeared now and again on the main screen.
Because i don’t do a lot of stop and start town miles I opted to ignore it, and waited until the 2 years was up before giving it a service.
The first quote from my nearest dealer was £434, the second was the dealer that I purchased the car from which started at £379, but dropped to £339 which I went for.
Sadly the time has come to change it as the PCP is coming up.
I say sadly because I wanted another one but am wary of the 1.5 35 engine, and the 2.0 litre is too expensive and over the top for an old man, so I have opted for a VW T Cross

Q2 1.4 Sport S tronic Glacier White, Spare wheel.. folding mirrors, 2zone climate control, Park assist, side assist with rear cross traffic assist, Ali inserts instead of red, Self dimming rear view mirror, LED headlights, Privacy glass.
(nearly all standard on the T Cross R line and £5,000 cheaper.but slower and no progressive steering or electronic handbrake with auto hold which I will miss).

I have never had service 01 appear or I would take it in to be fair, if you had that warning it appears that it’s linked to oil degradation if you had it way before the 2 years thanks for your reply

Its simply a count down clock really based on miles/days

Its either set to fixed 9,000 or 365 days or

flexible which is 19,000 or 730 days

If you look in the settings on the MMI it will tell you when its due (it counts it down in both miles and days)

If you prefer to have it serviced annually ask your dealer to change it to fixed and it will prompt you every 9,000 or annually.

Sorry but it is not a simple countdown. It seems it but it actually monitors the type of driving you do. My 1st service came around quicker as I was doing start stop town driving a lot whereas I now do longer trips so my 2nd service is longer apart. Anual servicing is a countdown but the flexible servicing is more advanced.

Also, do not ignore the service light. You might invalidate your warranty. This is the 1st rule with warranties and I’m surprised that 2 people are opting to ignore it. It’s in one of the first clauses of the warranty that the car has to be serviced and kept to manufacturers guidelines. Good luck if something goes wrong.

Whatever interval you chose, do NOT accept the first price offered by any Audi dealer. Staff are authorised to reduce by 10% just for the asking and can go further if you push. They are kind enough to say when the lowest price has been reached and will not drop further.

Only had one service visit, to reprogramme a second key. I was met in the car park by a clipboard chap directed where to park, then pointed at the entrance door. I was met at the door and escorted to the service area and given coffee by a second chap. A third lady then went through the key programming process and asked if I was coming back later as it is a minimum 1.5 hour job. I said I was staying as surely it wasn’t a long job. She reconfirmed that it was definitely 1.5 hours hence the high cost. I then read three newspapers, drank three coffees and ate three shortbreads all the time watching my car through the showroom window for an hour and a quarter. Then a young chap appeared from the back, collected the blank key and proceeded to collect the car reprogramme the car to the key and return it to the parking space 12 minutes later.

The service interval appears to be based on when the car was delivered to the dealership and they carried out a delivery check. I purchased my Q2 with 135 miles on the clock from the dealer in August 17, the car was registered 31st May 17 and the car had been delivered to the dealership in December 16. The first service became due in December 2018. Had no issues with the car but could be interesting at what date the warranty ends.

Mine is a similar to yours, after cancelling my order for a new SLine 1.4 for September 2018 because of the huge delays we all now why, thank god I did otherwise I would have joined the 1,5 engine dilemma
Found a #1 Edition regerstered late April 2018 bought it August 31 2018 with just 29 miles on it, had a cracking deal as they were desperate to sell before the first of September I am sure the sales person said our warranty would run out in April which is when they took possession of it so may extend the warranty depending on cost of may just chop it in early.

Here's a link to the various costs I was quoted for my second service back in February... https://www.q2forums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=611&p=4320#p4320

The initial price was crazy and left a bitter taste in my mouth for Derby Audi... I ultimately paid almost £200 less for the service in the end.

I was the first to take delivery of the Q2 back in November '16 with my dealer issuing a week before it should have been released. I was pleased with the car but typically only hold onto a car for a maximum of three years and recently traded it in for a new Range Rover Evoque. Most impressed with it.

Thanks for all your replies guys, found the service data on the MMI it’s due at another 11600 miles which equates to 19,000 miles as previously said or 195 days which takes me to 2 years.
The service cost isn’t an issue as we had two services paid for in the deal, think I will just top it up it’s about half way on the dipstick and wait for the two year period unless the service light comes on which I doubt.
Interestingly I have heard of service lights come on early before if the car is driven hard fortunately my boy racer days are well over 😂
