Q2 clutch failure

My wife picked up her Q2 1.0 tfsi sport at the end of April. We drove the car out of the dealership and within a couple of miles noticed a smell from the engine. We put this down to it being a new car and our first petrol engine since 2009.

The smell remained sometimes worse than others until after 900 miles when the clutch failed as she was driving to work. Audi assist took the car back to the dealer and a replacement clutch and flywheel fitted under warranty.

She then received a call from the service manager who told her there was no fault with the car and her driving was the cause of the problem. She pointed out this was the seventh car she has owned all from new and all have driven 25000 miles plus without problem. She nor I have suddenly changed our driving style.

Less than 3000 miles later the same problem occurred with the smell and as she was near to the dealers took it in to be checked. The service technician admitted there was definitely a fault but they could do nothing about it as it was the Friday before Christmas and they had no courtesy vehicle available. His advice was to carry on driving the vehicle and call Audi assist in the event of the clutch failing again. She pointed out that she had her parents and one of the children in the car and was not prepared to risk driving the vehicle. Eventually they were taken home by taxi and a hire car was delivered the next day.

She then received a call to say that as they could not find any fault first time they are not prepared to look at the car unless we pay £630 to do a full inspection although the replacement clutch and flywheel are covered under warranty as they are less than six months old.

We have spoken to both Audi UK and Audi finance but both are saying they can do nothing as the dealer has the final say. I do not see why we should fork out £630 for a car that has covered less than 4000 miles.

Not clear if this failure is perculiar to the 1.0 tfsi model, or affects other variants. Might be worth taking the car to an independent specialist, or a more sympathetic Audi dealer who is happy to test/inspect the car.

Hi. I have mine booked in with the dealer at the end of the month. It has not become any worse but definitely needs sorting. Will post an update once I have one.
