My last Q3 showed it on the screen when the car was in efficiency mode, the Q2 does not seem to show it in the same way but I have always assumed that when the MPG log shows green it is in 2 cylinder mode and when it moves up to the battery symbol it is in recuperation as well. The handbook is not very clear on this one, but last week I was touring Ireland and my 1.4 showed an overall consumption figure of 49.1 mpg, so it must have been in two cylinder for some of this time.

The green part of the log is absolutely not related to 2 cylinder mode. When it goes green, there's some kind of energy recuperation, that's all. To get the "2 cylinder mode" indication, you have to go to a specific view and settings in your Virtual Cockpit (well, assuming you have it). However, I don't know exactly what view, as I don't care about it in my everyday use...

I disagree, in the handbook it clearly states that when the bar turns green then energy recuperation and two cylinder mode are activated, please see below:

Fuel consumption
The current fuel consumption can be shown in a
bar display ^>Fig. 15. The average fuel consumption
from the single journey memory can also be
displayed. If the barturns green, yourvehicle is
saving fuel using the following function:
- Recuperation: Electrical energy can be stored in
the battery (recuperation) if the vehicle is travelling
downhill or coasting in gear (overrun). In
this case, the bar will move towards the Q
symbol.
- Active Cylinder Management*: The engine automatically
shuts down two cylinders when performance
demand is low and certain other conditions
have been met. This process is imperceptible
to the occupants. The driver message
2-cylinder mode will appear if the average fuel
consumption display ^>Fig. 15 is selected in the
instrument cluster. The cylinders are reactivated
under heavier load conditions.

Can confirm if conditions are met , and trip computer is in average mpg mode for that journey , you will see the cylinder on demand when it is used

Yep see it on mine, we have a slight downhill bypass and in 6th just under 2000 rpm about 65-70 mph mine shows '2 Cylinder Mode' as I cruise down the road. i can keep it on for a few miles.
