Snow Chains

Post by chaminga » Fri Aug 02, 2019 2:27 pm

Did anyone tried to fix traditional snow chains (diamond pattern) to Audi Q2 ?

According to Owner's manual only 16 inch wheels support snow chains.

You can get chains to fit other sizes but they will need to be slimline chains. I have 17" winter wheels with a set that fit fine.

What is the chain you got ? I found there are different clearance levels in slim fit chains. eg 10mm, 7mm etc.

Mine are Althura 7mm chains, the slimmest i could find without paying stupid money for the special low profile ones. My experience is that snow tyres are good enough for any conditions i'd ever want to find myself driving in.

Generally I would say winter tyres are better in the UK unless you live away out in the country where the roads are totally covered in snow because snow chains do not work when they are running on tarmac.
As Paul says winter tyres are good enough for most conditions and there's no faffing about fitting and removing snow chains with them.

In Australia, diamond pattern snow chains are mandatory in snow fields, during snow.

I bought 10mm Konig (Self Tensioning) chains after checking at local shop. They said there is enough space to fit 10mm and durable than 7mm.
