Sim Slot and My Own Sim

Hi all. Before I picked up my new Q2 the other week (July 2022) I queried using my own sim in the car. My last 2 cars (A7 then Jaguar E pace) I just plonked my own sim in and all was good. The dealer, however, told me that there is no facility to use another sim in a Q2. No worries I thought, but when I got the car I noticed that there is a sim slot in the glove box along with 2 SD card slots. The manual is a bit confusing on the use of a separate sim. Basically it says "All data connections will be established via the Sim Card in the reader if one is inserted".

So what gives? I wonder what would happen if I buy and put my own sim in, would it override the embedded sim and if so would I lose the Audi Connect features (or will they work over an inserted sim), and then give me a hotspot I could use? Or wouldn't it work at all as the dealer says?

I have a 2022 Q2 Sline

The car has an inbuilt Sim for Connectivity

When I plugged in a SIM into the Slot - it appears but did not test it for long that the onboard SIM Stopped working.

So mine is now not inserted and just use the car one for the Apps on the HMI and updates.

Maybe when you get to 3 years - and you don't pay for the onboard SIM - the slot could be useful?

Thanks Simon Audi, so it appears it should work (I wonder why the dealer was so adamant it wouldn't). I may just get a data sim put it in the car and see what happens. I have another option though in that I have a tiny little USB powered unlocked 4G Router that I bought when travelling around Saudi Arabia years ago. I know I could just use my phone, but the package on it only gives me 2GB data a month. I could bung in one of those 24GB 3 data sims in to the mini router to give me and my family a car hotspot - which is what I'm really after.
